These are the Top 3 in the singles download chart. Number 3 is 'Shake It Off' by Taylor Swift, which I would definitely put into the pop genre. Herself and her music have become extremely popular within the last couple of years and has had multiple number 1's with her happy and upbeat pop songs. Her image is very girly and fun and her target audience would be young girls or even teenage girls. I feel that her music is enjoyable and fun, and gives a positive vibe within the music industry.
At number 2, we have Jessie J feat Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj with 'Bang Bang'. Again a very upbeat song. The different vocals within this song make it different and interesting and also can appeal to a larger target audience. This is because Nicki Minaj comes from an R'n'B background, so it gives a variety of voice styles. Jessie J, who is the main focus within this song, varies her style of music quite a lot, going from fast paced songs, to sad, slow songs, but 'Bang Bang' most definitely fits into the pop genre of music.
Finally at number 1, we have the new artist Meghan Trainor with 'All About That Bass'. This song is quite simple in it's backing track, but it's the words that make it catchy and popular. In this song, there is a very simple beat going on in the background and the use of Meghan's voice becomes the tune making it different to others in the charts. I think it is at number 1 also because the artist is new to the charts, which makes everyone want to buy the single to see what she is like.
In the rest of the chart there is a range of different genres including Pop, R'n'B, Dance and acoustic singer/songwriters. I would probably put 'Changing' by Sigma and Paloma Faith in the pop/dance genre, 'Blame' by Calvin Harris and John Newman, 'Comeback' by Ella Eyre and also 'I'm Not The Only One' by Sam Smith.
I worked out that within this download chart, 58% of the content was in the Pop genre, making it the most popular genre of music at this time.
