The music genre that I have chosen for my music magazine is Pop. I specifically chose this genre as it has an extremely large fan base and the Pop music that we listen to, is also played around the world. It is titled 'Pop' because of it's popularity in the music industry.
Some examples of pop culture and their artists are Jessie J and the band One Direction, as they have a large fan base that consists of people all over the globe, making them more popular than certain singers in other genres. Their image is also important to pop culture as well. They normally have a very positive outlook and seem to always look like they are happy and are enjoying what they do, which to a fan and also management, is vital. Especially for female singers, the use of colour within their clothes and artist artwork is useful as it again, gives off a more positive vibe to their audience. If they were doing a more downbeat song, the colours would usually be slightly darker as they want the type of song to link with the colours, which would create a certain theme. The bright colour scheme might not be relevant to male singers in the pop world, as pinks and purples would be stereotyped for females. They also communicate that they are 'Pop' because their songs are most likely going to upbeat, but usually throw one or two sad songs it as well.
The first 'Pop' songs that I could remember where The Spice Girls and usually when asked to think of stereotype of this genre, you would think of The Spice Girls. When they were at their most popular, I think the most important thng about pop culture was definitely the dress code and happy upbeat songs. The way they dressed would probably be very girly, even sporty spice wore glitter and shiny clothes, and could be portrayed as flirty and outgoing. I think this can also be linked into modern pop culture too, as most young singers in the industry dress for the way it looks, and comfort is not important. Also the king of pop Michael Jackson, became the dominant figure within pop culture. He gave large contributions to music, dance, and fashion and also made his personal life very public, which is important in modern pop culture too. His 1982 album 'Thriller' became the best selling album of all time, proving how popular and loved, pop music is all over the world.
